Oh my that can go both ways after the first pitch. I umpire and I waa going through rule book after rule book for something on that. The only rule I could find was that one you start the at bat the batter has to stay in the box he picked at the start of the at bat. The new rule should be intresting. I have had switch hitters before from little league to simi-pro but never switch picthers. I think maybe before the at bat they should have a coin toss.

If he starts, does this mean he can throw 200 pitches in a game? :-)

That at-bat did, in fact, create a rule change. A new rule states that the pitcher must decide before the at-bat which hand he will pitch with. The batter can then choose his side. After the first pitch, both are allowed to change once during the at-bat. I don't know if the rule has been adopted at any higher levels, but I would expect to see it in the books for all pro levels before next season.
I hope we see this kid at the MLB level. His versatility is quite intriguing! |
