Tubas just make it more intersting, I'm thinking about joining jazz band, and i just switched from trombone to tuba, and our director said he wanted me to stay on trombone for when the jazz band came along, but I could go from Bb to Bb to F to Bb, but its really confusing because they're are to many Bb's, on my 3rd or 4th time picking up a tuba

man itss great to see pros breaking down walls i mean not many people think tubas make good swing instruments thats why i joined my university's jazz band on tuba because the director said tubas don't belong.

It looks to me like he's using a 4+1 tuba. (4 pistons + 1 rotary) If you take a look at his tuba in the close shots, you can see a round brass area just above the first valve where his fingers are. Right near the end of the piece you can see his thumb and the linkage move.

@ KennytheBassist: He played a 4-valve Tuba.
It´s incredible what he can do with only 4 valves, isn´t it?
I play a 6-valve f-tuba and I can´t believe what I hear.
He´s the greatest Tuba player on our Earth
Im Sassified^^

Question, is Mr. Sass using a 5-valve Tuba or a 4? The sound he has is quite fascinating, but seems to be a little too pedal-tone range to be done on a 4-valve. I may be wrong, but that's what I get for playing Euphonium too long (I'm a Tuba player by the way, I was asked to perform on Euphonium by a close friend for a concert). |
