one step ahead? we use 7.62 since 1947
and in real battle fieald you have no time to "properly handle and clean your M16"
you need a stuff that will shoot at enemy even if you hided in a swamp mud from artillery barrage
that is why AK-xxx can save owner`s life in battle field
M16 is good only for use in test shooting range

because the united states of america is always looking for the latest technology available for its troops, it has to keep one step ahead of the others always, if a new and better weapon than m16 shows up on the market, they will use it. BTW its upto soldiers what weapon they want to use because they get to chose, many use m16 because its easy to use.

They used to jam not because it was faulty, it jammed because the marines did not handle it properly and clean it properly. Military discipline has resolved this problem now.

yeah but the "reliable" version of the m-16 weights 4 kg but still it jamming from all little peace of sand or mud and the akm (modern AK-47) more reliable and weights only 3.14 kg

Early M-16s did jam a lot djsal510, but modern M-16s are a very reliable weapon. And vastly more accurate than an AK47

Too bad russian beat US in space also US marines love their ak47 than their shitty jamming M16. Migs & sukhoi beat F15 & 16 during cope india excercise. you can google it also
