When you see Elaine live, you will know why she's iconic. I saw her in back to back performances in Los Angeles several years ago during her tour. Awe inspiring.

She is a brilliant actress, but this clip makes me glad I don't have to work with her.

Where has all the class and dignity gone? Noone is funny anymore unless they say taboo words or swear. A sign of the times perhaps.

she created some of the most memorable roles on broadway
like joanne in company
she is one of the greatest character actors on stage and screen....and totally honest, which is why everyone loves her

elaine stritch has , if i remember it correctly four other nominations before the one woman show. not a lot of people have that kind of honor.the most important thing is she was involved in many different shows and many of those shows have won a lot of awards. hal prince actually thanked her during his acceptance speech and so did sondheim . sometimes, one does not need to be winning to be an icon.look at julie andrews, she is not a tony winner it doeen't mean she is not a theatre legend!

I don't mean to be rude here, but why exactly is she considered a Broadway icon? She didn't win any Tony awards until the "Elaine at Liberty" one-woman show; she didn't have any gold-selling albums; she didn't star in huge blockbuster movies; so why? She's considered an "icon" because she hung in there, and didn't croak? Just curious.

Do you think she was excited?!
She's on two original cast albums of Sail Away by Noel Coward. Great songs! |
