Hmm first that doen't mean the zerg influnced the tyranids beacause both came out within a few months of each other, and I don't think Gamesworkshop knew about the Zerg during Starcrafts production, and the Tyrainds had a back story since 3 edition.

Not much they are distinct enough to say that that came about apart from one and other. the evil hive things are not that unusual an idea, and all kinda have the same basic archetype.
The Tyranids were in the first edition but had no real background. They were never looked at again due to the rule revamp. In 3ed they became a playable race. Starcraft was in production long before the third edition. and while both came out in the same year, Starcraft was out before 3ed by a few month

No I played Warhammer back in the late 90s/early 00s and they had a quite a defined backstory (i.e a race of bio engernied creatures who consume and assumulate).
I know Blizzard ripped of Warhammer Fantasy battle I just wonder how much Starcraft stole from 40k.

No Zerg influenced the Tyranids but from what Yes the Tyranids came first but only the units and only in sparse numbers, with next to no background, in the 4 edition (2004) was when the Tyranids gained their background and that was a far pace after the Zerg came about.
