500cc GP bikes, 600cc WSB bikes, and the newer 800cc (4 stroke) MotoGp bikes are so differant from each other, comparing them is a bit silly. 500cc GP bikes could be a 4 cyl, square 4, inline 4, V-4, V-3. They could be carberated or fuel injected. Ya I know about reed and POWER valves. How about guilten (sorry I my spelling is not better) valves for carberation. The point is what makes you blood flow. ENGINES and flogging a bike for all its worth.

Thanks for the education,

no mate, i didnt mean to come across as patranizing (sorry i cant spell) was just stating that for the most 2 stroke are under half the weight of a 4 stroke engine of the same capacity, and yes a 2 stroke can have a valve 2 but there not over head valve like on a 4 stroke. You get 1 valve in a 2 stroke called a "power valve" on alot of the older models they had a "power spring" [but thats the past] sorry if i sounded like an ass, just wanted to educate you on 2 stroke abit if you will

And I don't care if your a Mechanic or a Formula 1 driver. I never said I think 4 strokes are better or worse than a two stroke. I do prefer to use 4 stroke engines but would ride a 2 stroke just as easily. I was under the assumption that both 4 strokes and strokes had valves and so on. Am I wrong? And yes I was aware of the triple walled crank on a 4 stroke so your not "awing" me with some big technical term. And just because your a mechanic, do you suddenly assume I'm not one?
wantedlonewolf (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
did you forget that 4 srokes have valves? cams? timing chains? oil filters?, what about the triple walled crank? .... sorry to tell you but all these things being added to the engine often euals to the same weight as a 2 stroke engine.... and thats without the gearbox, engine casings, clutch, piston, rings, barrel, head, bottom end... want me to go on?, im machanic mate, you keep going on about how you "think" 4 strokes are better, ill just keep correcting you and telling you how wrong you are
flyin400 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
What parts? You only save about 15lbs in a two stroke with the same bore as a 4 stroke. It's usually due to the shorter stroke a two stroke engine has which creates a shorter engine block. This vary's from engine to engine and it's exact specs.

True he was obviously slowing down but think if there was a pro driving the Bowler
wantedlonewolf (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
ok then mate, my mistake... im into the 2 strokes of old so only pay attention to them. i allways thought moto gp were 600cc, and wsb were 1000cc, but i'v never been interested since 2 strokes were out of the picture. cheers Paul
sesarathor (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
Incorrect, the 4 strokes are 800cc originally 900cc
