I have never been a fan of Florez and Calleja. I like a more manly sound, not a choir boyish sound.

Joseph Calleja is one of the best tenor in the world, very soon he will be the best.

Fantastic voices both Renee Fleming and Joseph Calleja

I couldn't agree with you more. She is extraordinary. Having seen Calla, in my humble opinion, I think she is just as good if not better.

No one disputes Fleming's abilities. What I reject is the general tone of most comments on these opera pages. Real critique and appreciation vs nasty bitching.
I think both singers are excellent in general and both seem to try, as much as is possible today, not to sell out totally to the "popification" of serious music.

Fleming is the greatest soprano alive today period. She is unrivalled in her repertoire and the seamless beauty of her voice is unrivalled. She does some stupid things like the "I could have danced all night" at the nobel ceremony but then again, who doesn't?
She gets excellent support from Calleja here and the "Style Francais" is just fine.

Well I can;t see what is so beyond about Fleming here? Why are all the opera pages filled with American queens spewing venom? Have they nothing better to do? Are they really the maximum authority on singing? I think not. Get a grip all of ya!
