I disagree. Steve's motions looked quite controlled to me. He was certainly using momentum, but is motions were fluid. There was no lock-out of his knees or elbows. Watch how his knees are soft when he starts the overhead presses. In my experiences, the danger with momentum is that it can carry your joints to hyper-extension and that you can get a 'jolt' when you do something like catching a clean with locked knees. Steve is carefully avoiding both.

you can use kettlebells in a controled matter also. You use much more than the target muscles, unlike free weights. I dont break a sweat when i use free weights while with kettlebells i sweat like a hog. building muscle and using cardio. Why not just mix this method with free weights?

...guaranteed with KBs.
Id recommend to no one to buy this DVD with KBs for a homeworkout without any experience before. Especially novices should be instructed in real life by people who can correct their mistakes.

moving fast over multiple joints with momentum might lead into using muscles youre not aiming to train and taking the focus from the main groups youre trying to focus.
As ones not used to lifting or sports at all it might occur those exercises are risky. And even for trained people... I mean, it has a reason why the most successfull athletes in the world all use the same basic exercises, that minimize risk of injury and maximize effectivity, and thats what I think isnt really...

Don't get personal, It depends on what you want... I've been in Kickboxing for over 10 years and built about 24kg of solid mass in the last 4 Years in my struggle for Full Contact. Looking for a good Mass-Building workout everyone will discover free heavy freeweigt-exercises over multiple joints employing big muscle-groups work the best, e.g. squats, benchpress, deadlifts pullups etc...
I'd prefer splitting cardio/condition and weight training.

Slow and controlled? When is life ever slow and controlled? You need to train for explosive power, movement and strength. Bet you LOVE those isolation movement machines at the gym. See where that gets you in a few years!

lots of people will disagree with you, tho everyone has their preferred w/out style and is entitled to an opinion. as it happens, i'm not convinced anyone should try these excercises without reading pavel's ETK first - those halos look like a recipe for disaster without correct breathing control. plus he has a slight twist in his right knee during some exercises. and finally, i'm sure he knows, but he uses his legs slightly in the c+p. good on him tho - he looks in good shape for an old guy

Using sooo much momentum will only lead to injuries. Use proper weigts and perform your exercises in a controled way. I don't like Kettlebells too much....

is not meant to be entertaining - why not get one with a hot girl; may make your exercise better for you . . . though if your mental state is such to be concerned about the aesthetics . . . |
