Ashley does state right off the top "Here's an old Gaelic *song* for ya', if you know the words sing along." True enough, he plays the tune for the song. So now, do you know the name of the song for which he's playing the tune? Incidentally, Ashley play both by ear and by the dots. He has formal training as well as that which he received in the folk circle in which he was raised.

thesession[dot]org has sheet music online. Just search for the tune name and there will be a Sheetmusic tab. On a different note, this video does show that white guys can dance! ;)

The tune that starts around 2:45 is called Dusty Miller - I've been incapable of finding any sheet music for it; The one after that is Dinkie Dorrian's, you can get the sheet music on the internet for it.

In my country traditional musicians can't even read music. And they are all selftaught!!!

oh! thank you so much for posting this. I had the Gow collection from my library and totally missed this one (there are so many excellent tunes in that book!)

sorry love. imho if you really are serious about playing trad music, you need to start learning by ear. it's as simple as that. Also I asked Howie MacDonald if he knew the name of this first tune, and he didn't. It's just kinda the way it goes... (ps it's a tune, not a song. songs have lyrics. please excuse my nerding lol) best of luck to ya! :)

Hi, everyone! I just love the amazing way he seems to enjoy his art and ability. There are no exact words to express the magnificent feelings he can arise in my spirit. No doubt about it: music is the real universal language. Greetings from Mexico.
