im dan playing the video.this is not a discussion about race or culture, this is music. the clothes and background was meant to make it more interesting, not to break the clothing prohibition and music law. Free your spirit and break stupid laws in your head, not in mine.

There is a right-way to play, when we are talking about African Patterns, becouse the playing means a communication,in this case the Arara's communication which is the root of all Djembe playing since, (202 B.C.),around the Greece Empire. That root arrived to Cuba with the slave-trade and I learned from my ancestors when I was growing up...Dr. Zaragemca,(Gerry Zaragemca is a world's known authority in Afrocuban Percussion and Music).

Deejaeyzero, thanks for the personal email. I was unaware that one could do that. Hate is a strong word for those who offer a critique. Critique can be based on various levels of understanding and experience. "Hate" is not my source for the opinion offered. Dissapointment perhaps!
I will offer your advice to my Malian drum teacher when I display a lack of skill and he scoulds my attempts.
"theres no right or wrong way to play or feel an instrument" will go down a treat with him!
cheers

theres no right or wrong way to play, make,or feel an instrument.
its ALL personal, and for his clothing, who cares! he can wear whatever he wants,as far as im concerned no instrument should be restricted to a culture, its all one culture, one language, and one life, and thats music!
dont hate and appreciate!

EDIT: i should say Mady protects his culture as different to "this guy" being the white man dressed in the African shirt.
Scholarship!! Im still laughing! Study how western corperate outfits have affected africa from slavery onwards. Then ditch the remo drum and support africans and african supporters.

Scholarship! Speak to many people involved in west african music and they will suggest that industrial djembes are not the same as Djembes from west africa as much as indo djembes are not. This guy is a good percussionist but ditch the facade and clothes and buy drums carved by aficans and support the culture that provides the vibe. Watch 7 min and 11 sec of Mady Keita playing Dansa solos in Mali. This guy protects (a true cultural warrior)his traditions like some protect their eyes.

I love it. And I know the difference. Broaden your perspective scholarship and love for good drumming. The warrior says yea to it all.

C'est même pas des vrais djembé, et des rythme comme ça tu vas sur la plage le soir tu les entends... Le mieux c'est d'aprendre dans la rue |
