Book list! (And medical school advice)

This is an intro to great books on medicine. If you want to read something fun, informative about medicine, I've put together a short list of recommended books. But also, for those who are applying to medical school, this summer reading list should be a fun place to start -- and also should help you with your medical school essay and interview. Recommended by Youtuber: Singul4r1ty The house of god" by Samuel Shem _________________________ __________________ These are some further books recommended by Youtuber Jason Pitcher. He wrote: "Planning a Life in Medicine" by The Princeton Review. This book is one of the basics that discuss the steps towards making it into medical school and fully details the areas one should focus on to prepare for such a venture. "Med School Confidential" by Robert H. Miller & Daniel M. Bissell,M.D. This book, too, details and outlines the steps for an undergraduate to take to make it into medical school and succeed as a medical student. "The Intern Blues" by Robert Marion, M.D. This particular piece details three interns (post-med school) and the trials and tribulations they face in the pediatric wards as they work towards surviving their first year as doctors. "Emergency Doctor" by Edward Ziegler. A work that describes life and experiences as an emergency physician. "Becoming a Doctor" Melvin Konner, M.D. This is probably one of my favorites as it shows the reader the journey to becoming a doctor as a 33 year old man who already had created a life for himself, yet decides he wants more than the life he has worked so hard to achieve. Now.. I know most of these do not give advice as to how to make it into medical school or even through it, but I love these books because they show the reader exactly what you can expect once you reach the point that you are required to actually put to show the information and knowledge you have required in medical school. ______________________ ___________________ Books recommended by Youtuber Gracieemma: Anything by Sir William Osler, as well as Anatomy of An Illness by norman cosuins ______________________ ___________________ Book recommended by DaFoe604: Med School Confidential _______________ Book recommended by Homersimpson889: Diet for A New America by John Robbins ______________________ __________________ Books Recommended by Anonymous Youtuber: 1)Bloodletting and miraculous cures by Vincent Lam 2) The best american science writing 2006 by a series of authors editor Atul Gawande _________________ dtyall 77 writes, " Why Not?" by Barry Nalebuff and Ian Ayres. It doesn't apply directly to medicine, but is in the same category as "blink" or "freakonomics." It deals with the issue of innovation, and teaching yourself how to solve problems and come up with new ideas." ____ A Youtube also recommends: Erich Segal, Doctors (1988); if i get to five" by dr. fred epstein

how ignorant

This is another subject to read to add to your list. via Suzar The real 'Father of Medicine' was the African multi-genius Imhotep of ancient Egypt, not Hippocrates who lived 2000 years later The symbol of the medical profession, the caduceus (a winged staff entwined by two serpents), was the insignia found on his temples. Imhotep temples in fact were the first hospitals known to man.

I read Tracy Kidder's "Mountains Beyond Mountains". It was such a great and inspiring book!

wholly jesus i was expecting 3 or 4 books, not a fucking library!

Sorry to interrupt.. but i don't think any doctor/surgeon should have money on his mind. Unfortunately, most doctors do exactly that. Patients are seen as $.
Chaoscuber (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
That's why you go on and study to become a surgeon. They make about, i dunno, 150,000 A MONTH! Btw usmedstudent, are you in grad school or pre med? I know i'm naive but i was jst wondering.

You're an idiot.
xxmrrickxx (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
Dude! You can get an associates degree at a technical college and work as an X-Ray technician and make more than that. Nurses start at $60,000 and MDs start at over $100,000 even in small towns.
