kevcar08, thats not strictly true. Remember bands like Siouxsie and the Banshee's, The Cure, Depeche Mode to a degree. Goth pop 'actually' existed in the early-mid 80's. It became comercialised around 87 with bands like All About Eve and Jesus and Mary Chain becoming big charters. There was a large overthrow scene from the old age punkers of the late 70's mellowing out. It DID exist amigo! Maybe you just bought the wrong magazines

how many of these people spouting ,goth,,captain jack,, actually remember listening to the cult in 1988..1989 . jesus h christ. nobody ever listened to goth pop because it never existed until later on. goth music lovers have just adopted older tunes as their own and thats o.k. just stop claiming that every artist or band that dressed in black or sung about the dark side is or must be gothic. you will only alienate true gothic artists .

what you all forget is that goth has different genres-for example love metal is classified under the goth genre and is bands like the 69 eyes,type-o-negative,hanoi rocks,his infernal majesty,etc then theres old goth,the cure and yes even the cult-but there all under one genre-ROCK!
