Also assuming what Sharp said about it at the begininng that it has a low gravitational field... if it has enough power to make them feel it, would it be blown blown up, it'll come back to shape in a short time.

Nope it wouldnt you're right man. In real, the nuke even wouldn't be able to actually blow up the rock in any manner.
All asteroids have a gravitation field, and altough it's weak, it's more than enough to keep it in it's shape so basically if you nuke it, a minute later the two parts will be connected again and the asteroid itself wouldn't even change it's course.

Great movie,,, however in real life a nuke would not be able to blow the rock up in this manner.
Assuming we could even create a nuke big enough - we are probably talking in the Teraton range here -- it would just break the rock into many pieces but they would still be on a collision course with earth.
So basically we are doomed if this were to ever happen on such short notice.

wouldnt the gravitaninal pull of earth sling shot them ion a path right back at us in the next thousand years?

whats so wrong with the tribute to JFK and what he meant to the space program? Youre way overanalyzing things a bit much. Take it easy there roger ebert. |
