One must consider the mind, body & spirit when practicing tai chi, the martial aspect is just a part of the sum to form the whole (wholistic - whole person), Boxing does not try to reach these concepts but, all true tai chi movements embrace them - (about the heal movement) bad foot technique changes the distribution of chi through Kid 1 acu-point that borrows chi energy from the earth to flow into the lower dantian - where yin (earth) energy mingles with yang energy from the heavens. I agree with you.
martial moves have multiple applications.
for example:you could use the same move in
3 different ways and some may even
be a slight variation.
the forms are a palette from which to work
not concrete exacts.

now to consider simple physics:
allowing the heal to move away from target
when trying to push/punch , you do not allow your center/weight to be fully utilized.
at least when using traditional martial art
form. boxers purposely do this but acheive
greater kinetic energy by turning the knee down and sprinting off the back foot.
commiting all the body weight behind the attack.

Sure, if you want to take it way back to the beginnings in the 12th century, you're right, that it was mainly to cultivate inner health. What we were getting at in this video is that the formal sequences all come from real combat techniques and you should feel that "oomph" when you practice your forms.

wrong!!! taiji (kung fu) was developed has a form of health, meditation, and to develop skill, not fighting!! latter on people started putting different moves that could be used in a fight, but nowdays if you do any of this stuff you will get killed,, anyways, I love tai chi!!

AS SIMPLE MEDICAL PRACTITIONER I MUST HUMBLY DISAGREE ONLY ON ONE SMALL COMMENT. It was stated that there is no power in the centered position. crown and perineum combined can give quite the push.

Patrick, I really enjoyed the tai chi video. It is excellent! I would like to know the soundtrack used for the making of the video. Also you should come to visit the Bahamas and make a tai chi video. Grand Bahama Island has a growing Chinese population. Hutchison Whampoa owns 50% of the cargo/port operations in Freeport and thought that you might be interested in learning more about this part of the world.
It would be great to hear from you.
