Orca Attack Seal with Waves

In January 2006 while visiting Antarctica, we witnessed a most unusual method for orca to dislodge a crabeater seal from an ice floe - they made large waves to wash the seal off the relative safety of the ice. Later the orca put the seal back on the ice and dislodged the seal a second time which suggested strongly they were training their young.

Now that's the mighty of nature. Poor Seal, but thats the way it goes. They kill to live - we live to kill. 4 Whales together to produce a wave - incredible.

I actually watched the video you are referring to after i commented here. For the record, i never called them whales. i referred to them as "killer whales" because that is another common reference.

Theyve most likely eaten their fill and were training the young. There is a national geographic video called Wolves of the Sea which shows a Orca capturing seals by sliding onto the beach. It had eaten its fill but still continued to try and catch them for fun. It caught another, brought it out to sea and played with it for a while, then gently carried it back to shore and let it go, unharmed. Dolphins are amazingly intelligent animals. (yes, dolphins. Orcas are NOT whales)

Okay i still don't get why they would put the sea lion back. I've never heard of a lion putting a wildebeast back or anything like that. on Wikipedia it says Orcas eat 500 pounds of food a day and there were like 5 killer whales how could they afford to spare it. Or at least why. This makes no sense.

The seal actually bit an orca's penis, that's why they put him back

Those damn Orca are getting way to smart; we better watch our backs.
