Cartoon:
But is it THEY who don't want others to drive or the people who don't want them to drive? In other words, to go with your analogy, the rest of the family (the citizens of the US) want these two brothers to drive. Yes, there is a little brother (take Ron Paul) who wants to drive here and there, but the family(citizens) decide against it.
Unless what you are saying is that the media and big corps. want only certain democrats and republicans to be elected...
There's still a big. diff.

Skeff, consider it a different way. Say that each political party is a brother, and the government is a car they both have keys to, but have to share. They both want to drive it exclusively, and have regular, vicious arguments over it. But ultimately, they know that one or the other of them is going to get to drive it. This is Chomsky's point - that their differences matter less than the fact that they own the car together, and no matter what happens, they agree that no one else gets to drive.

Obama was helped along, trained and groomed (whatever you like) by Jimmy Carter's national security advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski. Brzezinski is a trilateralist, a global thinktank - separate from the neo-cons of course - but nearly the same platform for power... the 'left' side you might say. Obama was advised by Brzezinski until late 2007. But its interesting that Brzezinski's kids work in both the McCain and Obama political campaigns. Basically, its all one huge party like Noam says......

kzearo- true, and the British Lib Dems probably have a similiar proportional standing to American Independants

Skeffington- Because Chomsky is a very clever anarchist. I agree with you on Obama.
SkeffingtonP (September 2, 2008 at 11:08 pm)
Please explain...tell me how there is little diff. between Obama and McCain especially in terms of foreign policy. You can answer "if Obama were president 5 years ago would we have gone into Iraq? Would we still be there?
patient0Studios (September 2, 2008 at 9:53 pm)
yes you are.
SkeffingtonP (September 1, 2008 at 3:40 am)
Why does Chomsky always say that there's not much diff bet. the 2 political parties. If Obama were in office we wouldn't be in Iraq anymore. There are many other large diff. social programs, taxes, immigration etc that are vastly diff. especially foreign policy. Am I missing something?
Can someone explain.

After looking at the last 8 years, it's hard to say what he saying is correct i.e that there's not much diff. between Democrats and Republcians...
Any thoughts?

And here I thought we lived under an Oligarchy. We are, all the masses living under the heel of the few, as sheep. |
