Thought it was mandatory to have dynamic brakes nowadays. Were they not originally built with them?
iwannaboneu (July 15, 2008 at 8:11 pm)
There is no dynamic brake on the "F" units. Only AIR.

True. True. But the 4th F Unit in the time of this vid was not yet finished at Altoona and there is no area that I know of where they could have turned the lead F unit around to lead the train down the curve. So NS just grabbed 2 helpers and let them lead the train down the curve. At least theres more dynamic braking power to control the train! The extra power makes it look more intresting.

Not quite. If you listen closely when the F's go by you can hear their engines idling (it sounds like a slow thumping). Also sounds like they still have their original 567 prime movers from the 1950's.

Several coaches here are from the old N&W Powattan Arrow trains.

There helpers, coming back down the grade. They just tagged along for the ride, back down ready for the next train to help up
manokiller (March 24, 2008 at 7:15 pm)
Could be that the F's werent in service

This is the NS Office Car Special. Only the F's are supposed to pull it.
