haha, i live in virginia and i'm not southern. we've changed a lot in the last 10 years as our colleges have become the best in the nation, metropolitan d.c. has expanded and a higher percentage of navy personnel has moved to eastern va

No one is saying that all whites are racist, but if you honestly believe that there isn't a percentage of the white electorate that won't vote for a black person, you're very naive. That's all Rendell's saying.

I think Rendell did a good job answering the interviewer here... he was not out to make a polictical statement or inject race into an issue--he was truthful in stating his view of how he felt a percentage of the population would vote because of their race and b/c of Obama's. It's just a fact--some people are prejudiced. Rendell is a popular guy here in PA with Republicans and Democrats, and that's mainly because he is direct and seemingly honest and straightforward in his governing.

Virginia is a deeply divided state politically. It is pretty much either staunch conservatives and left wing liberals. Obama was able to win Virginia due to the vast majority of the Democratic base being left wing liberals as opposed to moderates

Rendell is back peddaling life mofoe!! Interestingly Obama won my home state of VA. He won 55% of the white vote in VA, the mother of the Confederacy!! Rendall needs to remember that black voters supported him over a black Republican he ran against for governor. Oh, in most polls Obama leads McCain in Penn by 8 -10 points, don't know if that will hold up, but it is worthing noting!!!!!

Well he thinks PA ends at State College and he is a not so subtle racist to boot!

I like how they say this even though the guy has WON, he won, so, that say it all man-Americans.... You vote for the guy an then dwell...lol...If Obama can beat the Clintons, he can McCain. McCain is a paper tiger, he voted 95% of the time in the senate, the same way George bush has...your country will go down if Obama does not win. He must win, otherwise you a country of fools-plain & simple.

this guy is whiney douche. Clinton supporters always toss Michigan voters into their math. do these douchebags think we're retarded? the bums lost. go home.

I'm glad to have such an involved governor. Rendell realizes that the Philadelphia area is the only part of the state that actually matters and he's doing what it takes to get more federal money flowing in here.
ErdTirdMans (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
He said nothing of the sort. Way to skew the discussion. He said it's a fact that there is a percentage of people that won't vote for him, and probably implied that this worries him, given that he (Rendell) doesn't want a republican to win. If you spent 5 minutes watching this, you'd also know he said that Obama has done a great job overcoming this obstacle.
