You misunderstood what I wrote: 1) Never called this song old, although it is now, since it came out in 1989 2) Never mentioned upbringings & Lou Reed did not grow up in Queens, anyway 3) It wasn't a direct comparison, but one by default, etc...Read the comment again 'cause you seem to have missed the point altogether...You are not very smart, are you?

Lou is a gifted artist, legitimately angry about many of society's ills. This isn't exactly an 'old song', either. The Dylan comparison doesn't work at all...they are worlds apart thematically, stylistically, instrumentally.
Upbringings in small-town Minnesota vs. Queens? Not much of a comparison there, either...
Two very different, brilliant musicians we're lucky to have. Period.

Lou Reed stopped doing speed in the late 70s. He got into drinking. The first time that he was quite clean was when he did Growing Up In Public in 1980, and he put on a bit of weight. See videos from that year and check The Power Of Positive Drinking on Growing Up In Public or The Last Shot on Legendary Hearts (1983)...

Well said man, but would you want it any other way? I love his "i don't give a shit" attitude, makes him the great he is.
