Iron Butterfly : In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida : Part 1

Iron Butterfly was a band that was SO SO far ahead of its time it kinda hurt them in a way. On September 7, 1968, Iron Butterfly's second effort entered the charts with what was to become its signature album, "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida". The 17-minute title track of that album was one of the pioneer songs that spurned the popularity of extended jams in progressive rock. The album became a multi-million-seller and was for a number of years the biggest-selling item in Atlantic Records' catalog. The album also became the record industry's first platinum disc, selling over 4 million copies. Lead Guitarist Eric Braunn left the band the following year and was replaced with Mike Pinera, and Larry Reinhart but they just never found the long term super stardom or credit for their innovation that bands like the Doors, and Jefferson Airplane got. Again this is a 17 minute song so i had to cut it in 2 parts. Wow! Thank you. I will pass it on. I AM lucky. The actual liner notes on the album are truly gold as well. One of the guys is there in black and white as being "into groovy chicks". Gold, Eddy.

Franzfunny: You are so freakin lucky to have a dad like yours! For you to get the true riff of Ron Bushy's drum solo-the greatest IMO!- thanks to your Dad - count yourself one heckuva guy! PS: Give Dad my kudos, too- He did well raising his son!

Holy crap. This was also the first song that MY dad played for me from HIS vinyl collection. He got sick of me listening to Tool all the time and talking about how much I liked them, so he sat me in a darkened room with the record player and said "Listen to the drum solo especially. I'll be back in 20 minutes." Anyone else's dad do this for them?
dia33386 (October 4, 2008 at 7:26 am)
srgaston1: So freakin agree w/ U re the totally kick-ass drum solo starting about 6:23(every drummer's ***dream!) Guitar riff rocks too - but not like Bushy's drum solo! Don't kno that IB really gave a cr*p about wanting people to experience their acid trips-but who cares? I simply thank the gods of acid rock and Iron Butterfly for recording this for posterity! BTW - good to know that it still appeals to those of your generation! You rock!
