I believe she lost a couple. I know that when she was young she worked in a house of ill repute (with her mother!) and once had an abortion by sitting in a bath of mustard water. She wouldn't even eat at a table with mustard on it after that. I also seem to remember that she had at least one miscarriage, and she wanted a son badly.
She used that pain in her music. You can certainly hear it.

Have I read some how many biographies of Lady Day, but does a hole persist, does none mention if she had children, some of you possess information in this respect?
