Well, Sisters of Mercy are Gothic Rock and their stuff sound nothing like Siouxsie and the Banshees, and Siouxsie is one of the most representative Old School Gothic Rock bands.

Um Duran Duran claimed to be new Romantics, their stuff sounds nothing like The Mission.

Nope, actually, they're New Romantics, they came with the era, the look and the sweet melody of their idealist romantic love song. My uncle was a New Romantic in his youth, he told me that this was one of the most representative bands.
Still, The Mission UK is the fusion of perfection and glamour.

I'm not sure they ever claimed to be goth? more of a remnant from their time in the Sisters of Mercy I think?! A friend of mine referred to them as 'Goppy' Kida fits well I think!!
