Drew Barrymore to fight world hunger

Hello, I'm Rebecca Field with a UPI entertainment update on this Thursday, May 10, 2007. Actress Drew Barrymore is trying out a new role...as a UN ambassador. E! Online says the United Nations asked the actress to be the Ambassador against hunger for the world food program. She says she's honored to take the position. Barrymore will reportedly focus on improving feeding programs in schools in some of the world's poorest countries. "American Idol" is now down to the final three. Lakisha Jones, a single mother from Maryland, was voted off the Fox singing show last night. The elimination comes just one week after she impressed "Idol" judge Simon Cowell so much that he kissed her. On Tuesday night's show he was less pleased with her performance of the Barry Gibb hit "Stayin Alive." Now Melinda Doolittle, Jordin Sparks and Blake Lewis will compete for the win. Verizon Wireless is revoking sponsorship for singer Gwen Stefani's U.S. tour. The reason is because of the tour's opening act...singer Akon. Billboard says Verizon has also removed the R & B singer's music and ringtones from their stores. This comes after Akon apparently danced provocatively with a young fan on stage during his tour in Trinidad. The value of Verizon's sponsorship for Stefani's tour was predicted to be between 1.5 and 2 million dollars. The premiere of "Oceans 13" will benefit Darfur. Actors Don Cheadle, Matt Damon, Brad Pitt and George Clooney are reportedly organizing several benefits around the premiere to donate funds to people in Sudan. On May 22, there will be a party raising money for an organization co-founded by the film's producer Jerry Weintraub called Not on Our Watch...That group supports relief efforts in the region. Proceeds of the film premieres in Las Vegas and Chicago in June will also go to the organization. The film opens in North America June 5. Actress Jordana Brewster has tied the knot. People magazine reports she married producer Andrew Form. They reportedly wed in a private ceremony last weekend in the Caribbean.
