These guys put Canada on the arena rock and music video centre stage, and I couldn't be more proud!

mike is still hot and one helluva nice guy if you met him. so what if he's 300 lbs he is still a great and gifted musician.

disco was still on the "pop charts" in 1980-81, but it was morphing into what it is today, consider the "sos band","kool and the gangs" celebration, "lipps inc","dianna ross" olivia newton john, and queens "another one bites the dust" so clearly disco was still charting, and remenber the word "disco" changed to "dance" at around 1982-83...i will always hate MTV for turning its back on disco, disco was a very important part of pop culture and shouldnt be ignored...

Disco was no longer mainstream. There are plenty of other reasons to hate MTV now, let it go.
discoballs78 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
"black artists werent as popular in the mainstream before thriller", thats incorrect, consider donna summer, michael jacksons "off the wall", many disco artists were black, "chic", "earth wind and fire", "commadores", "kool and the gang", "rick james" and many others, but all these artists were categorized as "disco" and that was a dirty word by 1980-81, and thats more than likely the reason MTV snubbed them....MTV was "anti disco"...and thats why i hate it to this day...

Michael Jackson is largely credited with breaking the barrier to get more common play for black artists. That was only a couple years into MTV, but at the very start it is true black artists didn't get much play, if any. It was also what people wanted, black artists weren't as popular in the mainstream before Thriller. Quincy Jones went out and got Eddie Van Halen to help cross over to a white audience. It's not just MTV, it part of music history.

zzzzzzzzzzzz.......

discoguy79 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
hirskdubbi do your research better, mike jackson, eddie grant, had thier videos played the latter part of 1982 and into 1983, princes "purple rain" was played on MTV but that was in 83-84, eddie grant was 83. mike jackson had a very hard time getting "billie jean" to be played in 1982, all his "off the wall" stuff was ignored by MTV because it was "disco", and mr. jackson was percieved as a disco artist..
