Actually Muddy Waters was the first Elvis, James Brown etc.
Muddy got his start emulating Robert Johnson, Willy Brown, etc ;) Muddy was 2nd generation(along with Elmore James, Howlin' Wolf, etc in the post war Chicago Blues scene, ~1946+). They owe it all to delta bluesmen like Robert Johnson, Son House etc. and are the last link between blues and early rock/boogie woogie

Robert Johnson was the First Elvis, First MJ, First Bono, First Soulman, First Beatles, First Stone. Number 1. A great musician and world class guitarist. America should be so honoured and fortunate to have such a gift in its backyard of talent. Oh What a Talent, Robert Johnson. KING OF THE BLUES
