Yes there was a 50s rock revival boom in the 70s (in Britain and the US at least). For confirmation of this look at the soundtrack to the film Grease. In Japan maybe the rock revival came more a little later...in the first half of the 80s perhaps?

The lead vocals on the record were actually sung by Paul da Vinci, who never appeared with the band.
