That's a bad band backing Bobby. This man had the ability too sing soft and croon, or be a greasy down on your luck blues shouter.I always loved this tune when he's feeling it shouting "Turn on your love lights let it shine on me" [repeat]Then the horns come up and Bobby takes it out. This song came out when I was 5 years old you do the math. It's timeless.

it's a shame that you won't share your love with me (the B side of this record) is on the Bobby Blue Bland Anthology Album.

oranges 2lbs for 39 cents. lettuce 12 cents a head. one of the great, overlooked talents.

I saw Bobby at the Blue Room in Vicksburg, MS in May, 1965. Me and 3 other white high school guys were the only white people there. We were 16 and 17 years old. Show didn't start until after 10pm but we were there at 8. The trumpet guy came in around 9 and warmed up in a corner. (Scott?) The show was incredible! I did the Alligator at the Blue Room to Bobby Bland and orchestra with a middle aged black lady with a blue wig. The next week we were Gods at school.

thanks for posting this. it was the first record I ever bought. Now, how about the B side..."it's a shame that you won't share your love with me." I can't find it...

Nice cut. Heard John "Jabo" Starks mention in the documentary "The Funky Drummers" that this was the first cut he had ever played on.
It isnt James Brown post '67 funky, but it may be one of the earliest records w/ an open drum break (& WIKI says its from'61)....interesting
