well...yeah...i finished music school in the way. but that's not the point. my point is that if you MASTER the basics, everything is a piece of cake.
some just go to shredding from the beggining and and up nowhere.
+ not forcing yourself with lessons does not mean not to practice by your own. i play about (everything that comes to my mind) 6 hours a day also when i watch tv, or do some school work.

not to be a dick but i really disagree with this statement. Some of the best guitarists who you probably idolize got lessons from someone or went to a music school. Even the ones who were "self taught" learned from buying instructional books/tapes etc... i am of course talking about guitarists with good technique. Hell mark tremonti over here learned to shred from michael angelo batio and troy stetina. learning songs on your own can be valuable but having a GOOD teacher is very beneficial.

everything comes with years. believe me. i've been playing for about 12 years now and have never learned those techniques with lessons or something.
so i did this in 1st attempt and some time ago sweeped instantly (quite lousy ofcourse but it was a sweep and it's getting better)
also i learned shredding when i saw Alter Bridge - Open Your Eyes video with just copying how tremontis fingers at solo ''looked like''
so. don't waste your time with lessons. just play something your own =)

I'd cut off my right hand to have his left hand...

tremontis live tone is absolutley amazing

Dont watch it if you cant stand it. I think it's nice; it sounds creamier than the tone I pull out of my Custom 22, which has more crunch and bass. I can get something similar out of my Mira but I've nver been able to get it short of using a Tremonti (trust me I sat in a local guitar shop with a friend for two and a half hours fine tuning it with various effects and finally got it thru an Egnator with a couple of effects.) Tremonti's a beast no doubt about that.
