My apologies, understandably you know more than i do. Maybe it's just -another- screw up with the English language. Though, I doubt there was much time to exchange pleasantries and to establish that a raider wasn't a bay-person before he mutilated a christian monk XD

Is that right? Because in our languages Vikingar means "Bayfolk" Meaning, people who live near shores and in bays, which is common for all scandinavian languages. And I think the old word for pirate would be something more close to "Rövare", "Robber".

Well. Let's just say, we had a bad side. And a good side.
Blodwykeln (October 5, 2008 at 10:20 pm)
I was referring to those who participated in the raids and such, so my terminology was correct. Viking is not the word at all, it's a English misinterpretation of Vikingr which is Old Norse for "Pirate" or "Piracy."

And VIKING was their ride for money and goods, not Vikingr (who are man who participaited in Viking)

The Vikingr were far from barbaric, they invented undergarments, bathing; they married and they had a social heirachy.
