At the moment XP is more solid as it is as a operating system than Vista, but soon Vista will become more solid and with the time that "soon" happens more software will be incompatible for XP, but not for Vista. This is the same sort of arguement that happened when XP first came out and when XP became more solid having a older operating system was like using a dinosaur instead of a Euro Jet Fighter.
