martha shows us what the instrument of the human voice is for - a perfect performance in terms of vocal control and emotional expression. just as powerful to listen to as it is to watch. well done miss wainwright.

Wonderful, hypnotic performance! She does it in a so emotional way, I'm stunned.

As far as current versions go - this is pretty good, and fairly close to older versions. Lena Horne is good, Etta good...but the best is Ethel Waters. Great rich voice-you FEEL the pain, the true deep down blues..it's meaty and chewy. Some of you will know what I mean, other rubes will just 'thumbs down' me, or slam me. It's ok, cause it's my personal opinion...glad if this spins your wheels, really!...cause this is one great song...and i'm so glad people still recognize
great music and talent.
