This is the themesong from the 'The Rose'. The first movie Bette M. made. Her personage was 'Rose' a rockstar like Janis Joplin was. It was a big hit in the whole world. If you did not see this movie you just MUST see it. Beete's daughter was 15 when she was allowed to see it and found it Amazing. Hey Stef, when live gets on and on, you will understand this song very well. Live is like a rose isn't it! Good Luck to you mate from an old old Bette Midler fan

stef it does mention the rose in the song you can find the Lyrics anywhere on the net, but it's actually the meaning of the song not just about a rose. the Rose is being used to compare. at the end of the song Bette sias the rose.

problem with these young kids now is all they know is noise, not what the true meaning is in the song and Bette is a very heartfelt soulful singer that sings it all beautifully.
