and dont forget that Vandenberg wrote all the music for slip of the tongue and was injured so Vai took the lead guitar ;)

Vandenberg is a great guitarist, but I'm just saying, from a visual sense, when you're dueling and the other guy takes off his guitar and plays it on the floor, you can't help but have "ouch" run through your mind.

Dude, that's Adje Vandenberg - and sometimes it's necessary to step down in a song rather than fuck it up with overplay.
Live they split the solos 50/50, as Vai wasn't quite as 'pure' as adje in terms of blues and Schenker style staccato runs.
Vai is a great guitarist, but isn't all of them.
