recorded live in Los Angeles, August 2006. Sloan's new album "Sailover" is available on Hightone Records at hightone.com. Video by Infostructures.net. Show produced by WesternBeat.com. In 1965, PF Sloan's heartfelt song "Eve of Destruction," performed by Barry McGuire, became a Billboard number one hit. The anti-war anthem was one of the first protest songs to make the pop charts. It became the rallying cry for supporters of the 26th Amendment to the Constitution, which changed the voting age from 21 to 18. Sloan wrote a string of hits in the '60s, including "Secret Agent Man" (recorded by Johnny Rivers), "You Baby" (The Turtles) and "Where Were You When I Needed You" (The Grassroots). - excerpt from the NPR radio program on PF Sloan.

Wow, I'm glad we have such a genius like you to tell us who we should like. Only problem is that I like Mcquire's version best, but I also like Dylan and Cohen, and I can't stand American Idol. I bet that really confuses you... you idiot.

Prophetic song. I'll bet he wishes he hadn't had to have written the lyrics.

I also love Sloan's "A Must to Avoid." It's my favorite Herman's Hermits song. Sloan was well tuned into the pop sounds of the mid-60's. I wish he had written more hits.

you're a fucking moron.

you were there and so were many others, i just wanted to let people reading the thread that your memories may differ from the historical record. it's just kind of a bummer for me that you were "there" in that great era of peace and love with the guy that wrote "your" song, and came here with nothing but negative things to say.

On your bio it gives your age as 39. The Vietnam war ended before you were born. PF was a distant memory in 1977/78 and your giving me a history lesson? I lived that era attended anti war rallies and marched to help change the voting age. I worked with Phil, Lou, Steve, Bones, and Jay. I doubt you have even met any of them. I respect your opinion as a fan and an expert in US history. But ........ I was there, for the war, the 26th Amendment and the music. Sorry & Good Bye.

you're entitled to your opinion, but it doesn't seem like you read your own post - you falsely claimed Sloan killed "your" Grass Roots. I'm entitled to respond to your opinion with facts, free country. re: his claim that he helped change the constitution, you have to argue with NPR: The anti-war anthem was one of the first protest songs to make the pop charts. It became the rallying cry for supporters of the 26th Amendment to the Constitution, which changed the voting age from 21 to 18.

Mellow guy? Not Me. Still don't think anyone has heard of me and don't care. Sour grapes. Non here. Just have an opinion. Like I don't think the constitution was changed because Phil wrote 'Eve'. I'm I not entilted to an opinion on this forum? I was happy to leave the "Toots" Never wanted back. Phil wrote some good tunes. Which proves you can be a goof and write good tunes.

wow such sour grapes from a "mellow" guy no one would ever have heard of without that song "you put out" that was written by Sloan. Funny the Grass Roots in their heyday continued to record good Sloan songs after you were gone, why weren't they begging you to come back? Sloan is a non-commercial nutty goof, which makes him all the more lovable for his great contributions to popular music.
