if he was high that explains why the beggining was not too great

Now thats not true. Id have to agree with krissy, u cant prove these artists were or werent on drugs when they wrote these tunes and played, but when i gig regularly, usually with the same quintet, and when i do people arent normally as good when theyre blown out of their minds

Me myself and I.... Love it! greetings from Amsterdam. p.s. thanks for the post, Dexter Gordon is one of the true legends.

Not true. The Beatles, Hendrix, Dexter...the list goes on and on and on. Drugs have had an undeniably positive effect on the creative arts. Probably not so much on the artists themselves, but that's another story.

cant see him live. Unfortunately, he passed away to much regret.

Sonny, Trane, Dex, Joe Henderson...
jpwjr1199 (September 4, 2008 at 12:49 am)
Well, is that a fact? Then, you obviously don't know much about Dexter Gordon (high on pot fairly constantly), Charlie Parker(heroin, high onstage a lot), nor Louis Armstrong for that matter.(the forefather of jazz smoked grass all the time on and offstage). Whether I, personally, would recommend drugs is a different story, but, if you don't think drugs has ANY effect on ones creativity, then you've never done them or you're deluding yourself into believing it. It ain't PC to say, but true.

drugs don't make you creative, they make you think you're creative, all the greatest geniuses were best when they weren't high

He must have been the ONLY saxophonist that you heard before hearing this. Fire him! You'll never get gigs with that loser!
