A certain number of Filipino-Americans like to say Filipinos are Pacific Islanders. This is mainly do to ignorance and a lack of understanding of Filipino culture and history, as well as other Asian groups.
Both the USA and Philippines acknowledge that Filipinos are Asian, it's usually those ignorant Fil-Ams who think otherwise. As a Filipino, I will tell you now...WE ARE NOT Pacific Islanders.
