My personal belief as a trumpet that it doesn't depend on the band, it's just whether the players are having a good or bad night. Sure, the C above the staff isn't really high at all for me, or most first trumpets at my school, and even so, we march pregame and have to play those stand cheers over in the stands, WE are fine. It just depends on the player, and it's perfectly understandable if someone can't play a high C after pregame without a warm-down afterwards, and I doubt they had one.
