He have traume from war he been in some time ago, You see that he is former soldier, he have dog tags. When something reminds him war, he get crazy because he thing he is still in war.
Like Rambo, when cops torture him, he have flashback from Vietnam. Or even better example is Sergeand Andrew Scott played by Dolph Lundgren from movie Universal soldier...
