muay thai is generally more successful as a kicking art based on the nature of the way its taught, as in for full contact situations as opposed to the point system still used at TKD tournaments. i've never heard of kali putra..

Yep! How its taught and when and how its used! Muaythai might not be the best style to face off with someone who say knows TKD, or Kali putra vs Kung Fu. Like you said it all depends on the student and the teacher, not so much the style. Hell a brawler can get in a lucky punch and knock out a might more skilled foe. But thats more a case of luck, then skill!thats why Chris Leben has job now!

yes i agree. and its not the style itself that makes it good but how its taught.

Yeah i see your point. But look at this way. You had people from various countries come up with the same solution to fighting, by patenting strikes, and kicks. Someone in India came up with Kali Putra for standup, while some in the mideast had a form of grappling, and someone in China had a standup for kicks. So it just a matter of orgin, not some much concept. Good discussion!

i find all these style talk strange. we only have 2 arms and legs. how many style can there be? for instance, jui jitsu is no different to submission wrestling. people say cung le is using a chinese kungfu (san shou) but isnt this a set of rules, which allows take downs but prohibits ground fighting to improve striking amd standup grappling. the punches in sanshou are boxing and the kicks are taekwnodo/muaythai. theres nothing specific to chinese martial arts about sanshou which isnt a problem.

hey noob, the majority of the fights now end in strike knock-outs. The gracie periods are over old man.

The Mideast has its own martial arts traditions as well. most of it involves wrestling. But see Krav Maga being used by the Isrealis, and a version of it is practice by the Egyptian army. In India, home to some of the oldest martial tradions in the world, both from traditional Indian wrestling, which goes back to around 2500BC. Also you see Kali Putra there. So tons of styles come from others places besides Japan China and Brasil.

cung le is prob the CLEANEST striker ever. his strikes are never over used but make great connection. hes also reallllllly good at avoiding and concentrating. its amazing how he was able to keep focus when frank through all his swinger after cung was cornered. |
