They work so well together. It's either proof that in America Kerouac is anywhere, or that Kerouac and Gershwin voiced the same soul.... I think that makes them both true.

I agree. Some have accused Kerouac of creating a 'typed' book 'rather than a 'written' one, but I think that's unfair. In the documentary 'What Happened to Kerouac' one well-known writer talks about how 'On the Road' wasn't as much of 'spontaneous bop prosidy' but a really, we-ll edited / crafted / honed piece of work, and as good as anything by Proust. IMO, 'OtR' is up there with 'Catch-22', 'Catcher in the Rye', 'Of Mice & Men', and 'Armies of the Night').
