I partially agree with 1stereofonik. Sting IS singing about the false hope we sometimes have in other people and organisations in the world. But also he is saying God is above all that and if he ever loses faith in Him, he will have nothing else, which is true, because all that other stuff doesn't matter, including the "religionosity" and false doctrines of some of today's emergent churches, and even some churches of old.
It's about one's personal relationship with God, in other words.

I might also add that it's about Sting's disenfranchisement with mainstream religion.

It's neither. It's a lament about the confusion of invalid beliefs and the false hope we sometimes give ourselves.

Is this song a love song or some Christian bullshit?

Sting always collaborates with the world's best drummers: Stewart Copeland, Omar Hakim, Vinnie Colaiuta, and of course, Manu Katche on this huge hit.

the video appears to be lame, but there is a lot of symbolism to take note of. very important

in regards to the comment below, people such as adolf hitler are examples of religion fanatisicm. doubling your effort while forgetting your aim.

some may seek through these experiences first to find where life and love truly remains. to be at the top and fall to a point where we are faced with truth and from this point we re-direct ourselves on a spiritual path.

Belief in love and love in another is more powerful than any ephemeral creation on earth, including science and religion. Love is the answer! faith in love...and what we are as human beings |
