ALEX WEBSTER for life. he is my favorite, but that's cause i love death metal...victor wooten and les claypool are amazing...cliff burton was really good for the era that he was existing in and whoever said anything about gene simmons needs to be shot in the face, let's not forget about trevor dunn people!

if I see anymore people comparing bassplayers from 2 different genres I'm going to f-ing puke..stop it already. you should think of what you can learn from each of them instead of argueing who's better.

He dosnt even play the bass anymore lol.
priore88 (July 6, 2008 at 8:16 pm)
this man is unbelievable...i play bass, but he seems playing another instrument!!!
the best funky bass player, and probably the best in general
(webster is the best in death metal, but i think that wooten could play cannibal corpse and blotted science songs without problems)

cliff has dead rockstar syndrome. Every dead rockstar gets way more credit than they deserve.
Cliff was WAY overated, and did not really deserve all the praise. He was no more a great bassist than jean simmons. so why is he being brought up??

Cliff NEVER EVER used slapping. EVER. He was one of the best metal bassists. But he could never do this.

Cliff had 1/30 of Victor's skills, for real..
Cliff used so much distortion to hide his lack of skill, himself back in the 83 interview admitted that he did.
Cliff actually chose the wrong instrument, he confused bass with guitar.
Moreover, his solos aren't solos, they're just fastly played scales and simple arpeggios over and over and over and over and over and gaah.. Face it, Cliff had a good image but he wasn't a good player.
Summary: Cliff's playing cannot hold a candle to Vic's playing.

if you can't find only 1 little clip where cliff shows of his slapping, popping, tapping and overall bass skills which top this then I'm the first to admit that he was.
But no, he really isn't |
