To clear up discrepencies in these comments:
1: Judy was 28 during filming and did not die right afterwards, she died in 1969.
2: This scene was filmed months after the rest of the movie, when they decided it needed a big number. Judy was on vacation but apparently was glad to come do the scene, as long as they used the song "Get Happy", one she had always wanted to sing.
3: This WAS Judy's last film with MGM. She was supsended from her contract after, during the filming of "Royal Wedding."

Judy was suspended during the production of "Annie", not fired. The filming for "Summer Stock" came afterwards, and she wasn't release from her contract untill the filming of "Royal Wedding". She was replacing June Allyson, who announced during filming that she was pregnant. However, after repeatedly being late, on the first day she called to say she wouldn't be coming in, they took her off the picture and suspended her; later, completely releasing her from her contract. |
