It really shouldn't be called Sonic the Hedgehog- that name should be reserved for the very first game back in 1991. The 'next gen' one should be referred to in such a way as to differentiate, like Sonic 2006 or Sonic Next Gen, as one poster referred to it as. I've also seen Sonic 360, but the game's on PS3 as well, so that's kinda a misnomer.

there IS a hyper sonic, but he only appeared in 1 game, which was sonic 3 and knuckles. After collecting all of the chaos emeralds, you could turn into super sonic during the levels. after getting all the chaos emeralds, you could get the 7 super emeralds. If you got all of them, you could be hyper sonic. He flashes different colors, has after-images, and sparkles a lot. There was also a super and hyper knuckles and a super tails in the game. Search youtube for hyper sonic 3 and knuckles.
