This is the original New Order (not Joy Division) version of "Ceremony" that was released as a 12 inch single in 1981 (with "In a Lonely Place" as the b-side).
I still have the original single with the cardboard sleeve.
New Order later recut it, and Joy Division did it first live, but this is the version we heard in the summer of 1981 on the few progressive radio stations. Haunting and brilliantly crafted. One of my favorite records ever.

@mittrell PLEASE! Just because someone is dead doesn't negate their accomplishments. When the Boston Symphony plays the Brandenburg Concertos, do they say it's our song because Bach died? Jack Johnson gets to claim "Imagine" because John Lennon got shot? Limp Bizkit plays "Breed," so now they can take it from Kurt Cobain? Your reasoning is WEAK, but you're entitled to your opinion. So are we. Plus, we sound more logical because we don't resort to childish foul mouthing to get our point across.

rubyperfecto and rrcartermi you both miss the point...i couldnt give a flying fuck if there was a rehersal tape where ian was singing ceremony on it its a new order song on a new order album( 2 of them). ian decided to be soft and take his own life so he doesnt get bragging rights. guys get with the program New Order are better coz they toughed it out not took easy option!!! |
