Joni is one of the greats. And this is one of her greatest songs. California was like this song in 1970 - really captures the spirit of the time. Vietnam war was raging. Ghettos were burning. Students getting beaten bloody. But so much solidarity among the young people. Weren't killing each other in gangs (yet).
