There were even more cultures than that, Rick Rubin, Mantronix etc... . If you include graffiti the hip-hop gene pool is even deeper.

You're kinda right. If by cultures you mean Black, Latino, and Puerto Rican than yes it was a collaboration. Blacks, Latinos, and Puerto Ricans didnt have money to go to the Dicos in NY so they made their own music. Their are certainly exceptions but hip-hop is a the foremost black music.
