I would hesitate to call radiohead's sound 'avant-garde'. It is like the opposite of a free sound. That being said I love their music.

wow this is incredible. love how it has kind of a jazzy feel to it but still remains true to the radiohead avant-garde sound.

There are good artist, there are fantastic artist. And then, there are Keith Jarret.

i think you are forgetting mccoy tyner

krelianx, I completely agree with you. I really do love both artists. Keith because of his beautiful lyricism. He improvises as if playing a written out solo.. Very melodical and beutiful. Brad because of his technical, time, and rhythmic chops. He also plays very subtle and lyrical when it comes to ballads. His left hand counterlines and motific development and classical harmony is a very hip and sophisticated compbination.

does anyone have the sheet music?! it would be greatly appreciated
Relvaceos (July 2, 2008 at 1:52 am)
no, I, for instance, like jarrett because he alone gives me the best trip of my life if i just close my eyes, on the dark, with high volume.
jacofanatic (June 27, 2008 at 6:59 am)
very well put. it takes awhile for Jarretts atonal work to grow on even the most sophisticated listener
Krelianx (June 27, 2008 at 6:41 am)
I am a big fan of both. Jarrett is darn untouchable when he devolves into lyrical improvisations (end of La Scala, Paris, Kyoto) or gospel-tinged groove (Koln, much of his trio). Mehldau's rythmic and harmonic work is far more advanced, and his left hand has indeed opened a dramatic space for improvisation. Some of Keith's atonal work in his Solos is deviant and boring, but it is occasionally very far left (see Tokyo 2002). Both are fantastic, and neither deserved disavowal.
